A Nene’s Kapehan Basketball Team Concept
In 2023, my wife and I opened a small coffee shop named Nene’s Kapehan. As a designer, basketball player, and avid NBA fan, I decided to create a basketball team concept for Nene’s Kapehan, which I called “Kapeng Barakos.”
Besides playing basketball, I enjoy designing logos and jerseys for our team. This passion extends to my created teams in NBA2K. While I wish I had kept all my previous jersey designs, especially those for 2K, I’m excited to share my latest creation for NBA2K24: the Anaheim Amazing Kapeng Barakos.
In the Philippines, it’s common to use an adjective in sports team names, which is why I added “Amazing.” The name “Kapeng Barako” is inspired by the coffee beans used in our coffee shop, Nene’s Kapehan.
For the logo, I incorporated our coffee shop’s color theme of yellow, brown, and navy blue. The mascot is a wild boar, referencing the origin of the term “Kapeng Barako” from the Batangas province in the Philippines. The logo features a unique negative space coffee tornado swirl.
The official primary jersey showcases a two-tone design. The front is white, while the back features a halftone gradient of the iconic coffee bean/smoke logo accent from Nene’s Kape, the coffee brand primarily used in Nene’s Kapehan. A special coffee tornado swirl accent runs across the middle of the jersey, bridging the gradient white top with the yellow shorts.
While the jersey design might be unconventional for an NBA team, I embraced the creative freedom offered by the 2K platform to bring my unique vision to life.
